Your email address is used only to send a six-digit verification code and to recognize you on follow-up comments. Your raw email address is never displayed publicly and is not stored in clear text in the comments database.

For abuse prevention we store hashed identifiers derived from your email, IP address, and browser user-agent. These hashes are produced with a server-side secret and cannot be reversed back to the original values.

When you successfully verify a comment, a signed cookie named umamibloom_comment_session is set on your browser. It stores your display name and a hash of your email so you can post follow-up comments without re-verifying for up to 30 days. You can clear it at any time from your browser settings.

Retention rules for the comments system:

• Pending unverified comments are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
• Expired one-time verification codes are deleted automatically after 7 days.
• Approved comments remain public until you request their deletion or we remove them for moderation reasons.

To request deletion of a comment you posted, email contact@umamibloom.com or use the Contact page. Please include the recipe URL and the display name used so we can locate the comment.
